PhD Applications Update 1

1 minute read

If you’re reading this, then thank you for being a fan lol. I don’t update on this much, but when I do it’s kind of like a captain’s log where I just freely write down what’s going on in my mind when I finish a certain task. Nothing formal, nothing fancy, just talking lol.

But I just finished the first small batch of applications for a PhD program! I sent applications to UCLA, Stanford, and MIT where I hope to do some really cool work in any of these schools. Seriously, they each have amazing faculty in computer science (as you are most likely aware) and they all do incredible research in either NLP, HCI, or social machines where we take things through a lens of diversity/equity. That is really truly amazing. I hope to one day be that sort of role model for someone like the professors at these institutions are for me.

They are doing work that I find fascinating and innovative and something that motivates me to strive for more. I would be lucky to be accepted to any of these institutions, but if I don’t get into any of them (or any school for that matter), that’s ok too 😀. I learned something from a very incredibly wise woman that I idolize named Jackelyne Garcia. She is someone that I look up to and hope to be as smart as her one day, and she is also the love of my life. But she told me that no matter what happens during this application cycle, this is a process that we have to go through y “lo que pasa, pasa.” If I don’t get in anywhere, though it might hurt at first, I need to remember to stay with my head held high and use this experience for the next time that I apply because nothing is gonna stop us from achieving our goals.

Anyways, thanks for reading this. You didn’t have to, but I hope that you see that these applications really do mean a lot to me. I hope to get accepted, but if I don’t that’s ok too.

¡Hasta la próxima!
